Our Team

Sarah Redmond

Sarah Redmond is the founder of Cocoon Urban Day Spa. She is European trained and has an Internationally recognized degree (CIDESCO) specializing in skin care.

She began her career in Dublin, Ireland in 2000. After working at Bliss for a short time she quickly developed into the role of spa manager, a position she held for 2 years. She worked at Sothys (Paris) for 3 years as an international trainer where she got to visit many of the top spas in France, Ireland and the U.K.
"this was such a great opportunity for me, to see what works and doesn't work, not only as a customer but also what goes on behind the scenes. How to really run a successful business where both staff and clients are happy to be there. It is truly exciting for me to be able to create the kind of spa where I would want to spend the day. This is what motivated me in the beginning and what will continue to do so everyday."
With over 8 years of industry experience, Sarah brings together her favorite services, products and hand-picked staff all under one roof.

Lauren BurnleyLauren Burnley Licensed as an Esthetician since 2002, I’ve always been equally passionate about skin care, and waxing. Over the past 10 years, I decided to expose myself to as many skin care environments as I could, to effectively treat any skin type, or condition. I started my career in an Aveda concept spa, working my way through treatment savvy spas, like San Francisco’s Bliss, Billion Dollar Brows in Beverly Hills, and medical and dermatology practices. I quickly graduated from traditional, European style facials, to more advanced treatments, including Light Therapy, Oxygen treatments and resurfacing, to address specific conditions, from acne, to hyper-pigmentation. Understanding skincare fundamentals, and unique ingredient formulations like Skinceuticals, has given me the confidence to diagnose, treat, and transform the skin, through facials, and regimented home care. I’ve continued to evolve as an Esthetician, and find inspiration, on the path that led me to Cocoon. It’s been extremely rewarding joining such a talented team in such a unique & special place.

Mary FoxMary Fox About 10 years ago, after a lifetime of running and a stressful advertising career had me on the brink of total hip replacement, I stumbled upon the Ashtanga Vinyasa practice. Its rigor, sweat and discipline instantly drew me in. Through many hours of practice and study with Larry and Marie Schultz of It’s Yoga, I learned to embrace my physical limitations (including my new hip!) as opportunities for greater strength, self-knowledge and awareness. The It’s Yoga system gave me the freedom to develop my own practice and to trust in my inner teacher. I see my role as an instructor to be just that simple, and I’m honored to cheer lead others as they discover their own paths. Lauren ChingLauren Ching has been practicing yoga for three years and has been teaching at Cocoon since March 2010. She is a graduate of the YogaWorks teacher training program and is certified as a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) with the Yoga Alliance at the 200-hour level. Her style is a blend of Ashtanga, Iyengar and Viniyoga with a particular focus on breath work to calm and center the mind. Lauren aims to teach her classes in the same way she approaches her own practice and life in general with balance, gratitude and a sense of humor. You can learn more about Lauren at her Website.
MandyMandy Whittington started practicing yoga about six years ago to stretch after intense cardio workouts, such as running and TRX circuit training. Once she learned how to do the yoga poses properly, without allowing her body to ‘cheat’, she realized that yoga can also be a deep and very satisfying workout. But even more, she learned that concentrating on her asana practice, incorporating breath with movement, allowed her to clear her mind of the stresses of a corporate job, daily ‘to do’ lists, and city-living. She enjoys the end result of each yoga practice, feeling physically stimulated and mentally refreshed. Mandy started teaching yoga as she continued to learn more about its benefits and wondered “Why doesn’t everyone practice?” As such, her classes are structured such that they are challenging for both mind and body, with the end result of feeling rejuvenated inside and out. Mandy completed the YogaWorks 200-hour teacher training and has her YogaAlliance certification. Mandy is inspired by her dedicated and sincere teachers, and hopes to be one to all of her students so they can reach their full potential through yoga. Ann LamAnn Lam has practiced yoga since 2001 and received her 200-hour teacher training from Greenhouse Holistic in New York City. She currently teaches Hatha, Vinyasa Flow, and Restorative classes throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. Her classes focus on building strength and balance, with attention given to gentler restorative asanas (poses). Through the development and experience of each asana, she strives to grow awareness among her students, opening up pathways to restoration, transformation, and healing. Ann’s main teachers have included Leigh Evans, Summer Quashie, and Paul Manza. Drawing from her own experience as a classically trained violinist, Ann specializes in yoga for musicians. For more information, visit her Website.
GabrielleGabrielle Johnson is a 200 RYT, and received her training from Yogaworks here in the bay area. She has studied with Nikki Estrada, Mary Clare Sweet, and with travelled to Mexico in order to deepen her yoga experience with teachers Joanna Saxby and Sarah Pascual. An Omaha, NE native, Gabrielle grew up in a world of dance, receiving intensive ballet training from a young age. Working toward a career in dance, Gabrielle found cross training extremely beneficial and interesting. She has experienced Pilates mat and reformer, among other methodologies, but yoga is where she really found her second passion. The healing art of yoga allows her to listen to her body, mind, and heart, and through the practice she was able to bring to light her true intentions and goals. The love Gabrielle has for this practice is what fuels her to teach, hoping her students will receive a taste of this powerful medicine. Gabrielle appreciates yoga because it brings her to her own front door, and reminds her how important it is to stay aware and grateful of every little miracle. Gabrielle's classes are balanced, focused, strong, and clarifying. Her unique creative background and understanding of the body allows her to bring care and attention to her students, while holding a space for them that is fun and educational. Marie Murphy Cocoon Urban Day Spa Yoga Instructor Marie Murphy When I started practicing yoga, I couldn't touch my toes - and I couldn't believe that I would ever be able to. A regular yoga practice helped me change and heal my body in ways that I previously thought were impossible. Witnessing these changes within myself gave me a whole new understanding of the infinite possibilities for change and growth that exist within all of us. As a yoga instructor, I strive to give students the opportunity to recognize the capacity for change and growth that they each possess, and to claim the joy that comes with these discoveries. I teach dynamic vinyasa flow classes based on creative sequencing that is challenging yet approachable for students of all levels, and also mellower hatha flow classes which provide a slower, more gradual opening for the body, mind, and spirit. No matter the class style, I seek to create a space where students can explore their physical bodies, while also tapping into the depths of focus, calm, and peace within them.

I am also a certified Holistic Health Practitioner and I run a small private practice, Santosha Wellness. Aside from holistic health and yoga, my eclectic background includes years of teaching undergraduate sociology, three years in the Peace Corps in Zambia, various non-profit work, and Vipassana meditation training at Wat Ram Poeng in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
